The precomposed research question:
How can users store their cane, so both hands become free?
COS is a custom 3D-printed disk that can be mounted on any cane. It creates a controllable lever that allows the walking cane to be lifted (slowly) from the ground. Additionally, COS makes all canes stand upright on their own.
COS is inspired by Mother Nature's organic shapes. The shape's look comes from the cross-section of a tree trunk. Before adding the eventual shape, I studied circular shapes in landscapes, shells, celestial bodies, and more.
COS is easily adjustable. Because it is 3D-printed, it can be customised to fit the users' needs. Because of its circular shape, the stand is easy to carry, mount, and store in mobile contexts.
